Hazel McNeilage is an Independent Non-Executive Director of Reinsurance Group of America and serves on their Audit Committee and their Nominating and Governance Committee. She is a designated Financial Expert for SEC purposes. NYSE listed RGA has over $12bn in annual revenue and is #234 on the Fortune 500 (2018). Hazel also serves on the Board of Scholarship America, a major non-profit that distributed more than $250m in scholarship payments in 2018 and on the Advisory Board for the National Association of Corporate Directors Austin Chapter.
Hazel’s expertise includes investment management, insurance/pensions, risk management (including cyber security); finance; distribution and M&A. She has a truly global perspective, having lived and worked on five continents. Her global experience has driven a deep appreciation of the value of diversity. She has a perennially enquiring mind and a strong commitment to on-going professional development (PD), devoting well in excess of 100 hours pa to a carefully selected range of PD activities which directly support her board work. Hazel’s corporate governance expertise is complemented by experience from the institutional investor perspective, including having participated in proxy voting oversight for over $1tr of assets.
Hazel had a highly successful global executive career in financial services. Her last executive role was head of Northern Trust’s asset management business for Europe, Middle East and Africa. She has lived and worked for significant periods in each of South Africa, Australia, Singapore (where she had pan Asian responsibility), UK (where her responsibilities included Europe and the Middle East) as well as US. Her executive career included senior management roles in a large investment consulting business (now Willis Towers Watson), several major global investment management firms (including Principal Global Investors and Northern Trust Asset Management) and a large sovereign wealth fund.
Hazel has a first class honors degree in mathematics, economics and operations research. She is a Fellow of both the Institute of Actuaries (UK) and the Institute of Actuaries of Australia. Hazel is a Board Leadership Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors and has earned the CERT Certificate in Cybersecurity Oversight from Carnegie Mellon University.
A UK national, Hazel is a US permanent resident and lives in Austin, Texas.
